Human Organs Transplantation Act - 1994 (HOTA)

To stop unethical practices in transplantation and to allow cadaveric transplantation this law is passed by Parliament in 1994. This law allows cadaveric transplantation at recognized centers only.

Related donor transplantation is allowed but unrelated transplantation is prohibited except in a few cases where related donors are not available.

Each transplantation requires permission from the Authorization Committee, Govt. of Maharashtra. Without permission no body can go ahead with transplantation. Removal of any organ without permission is liable for punishment.
