 Introduction

KEM Hospital Pune, has undertaken a lot of projects in and around Pune.

Endoscopic Sinus Surgery Workshop

The KEM Hospital Research Center and ENT Department organized a two days' Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery Workshop at KEM Hospital Pune on 22nd & 23rd December 1998.

Prof. S.K. Kaluskar a noted personality in Endoscopic Sinus Surgery from UK conducted the surgical workshop showing newer techniques in FESS surgery. Dr. D. M. Anklesaria and Dr. Piloo Hakim from Bombay coordinated the workshop.

There was live surgery with CCTV and two way communication program at the center, a State of the Art Symposium and a cadaver video demonstration of different techniques in FESS surgery

About 150-200 delegates from different states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, M.P. etc attended the workshop which was supported by many pharmaceutical and surgical companies and other organizations. The Organizing Committee Chairman Dr. K. K. Desarda, Secretary Dr. Mrs. Vaid and Treasurer Dr. Suryawanshi, organized this CME event for the postgraduates and practicing ENT surgeons to enable them to learn methods and procedures in surgical applications with competence.

Safe Motherhood Project -Maval

On 30th October 1998, a day's training on Honey Bee Keeping was conducted at village Sangamwadi under the guidance of Mrs. Majumdar  from Central Bee Research and Training Institute,  Pune.

The project has covered students of Stds. VIII, IX and X in 14 high school in Maval area for "Family Life Education ". School principals voluntarily expressed their gratitude and commented on the usefulness of such sessions. The classes for boys were especially appreciated due to the fear of AIDS.

Inauguration of Join a project on women's literacy health and development K.E. M. Hospital Research Center and Ashta-No-Kai, Nippon have taken up a project on Women's Literacy Health & Development in 12 villages of Shirur block. The project was inaugurated on 9th October 1998. The trustees and dignitaries from both the organizations as well as 22 Japanese members were present for the function.
