Medi + Claim


Medical Claim In this policy, the Insured  gets the benefit of  Hospital as well as Domiciliary Hospitalization Benefits, which mean medication for a period exceeding three days, wherein the insured was being treated at home, whereas in the normal course of circumstances, the Insured would have been confined to a hospital/nursing home.

The reason for this being:

  • The patient was too ill to be transferred  to a hospital, or

  • Hospitalization was not possible due to lack of accommodation therein.  Domiciliary Hospitalization excludes certain diseases such as Asthma, Bronchitis, Hypertension, Psychiatric Disorders etc.

Insurance is also extended for any one illness, which means a continuous period of illness, including a relapse which may occur after a lapse of 45 days after the last date of consultation with the hospital, where treatment may have been taken.

Post-Hospitalization care is included for 60 days after Hospitalization by way of medical expense coverage. 

The claim does not cover pre-existing diseases. A few diseases other than those mentioned in the clause which occur  during the first 30 days from the commencement date of the policy  like cataract, hydrocele, hernia etc. are not covered during the first year of  insurance cover.

The policy does not provide coverage during pregnancy. The same may be obtained however, by group coverage with a loaded premium of about 20-25%

Family coverage is applicable for a family with two children only.

Age limit

Insurance is available to persons between the age of 5 and 75. Children between the age of 3 months and 5 years of age can be covered, provided one or both parents are covered. 

Family Discount of 10 % in the total premium is allowed,  when the insurance policy includes the insured as well as one or more of the following:

  • Spouse

  • Dependant Children

  • Dependant Parents

Notice Of Claim

A preliminary notice of claim  should be made within seven days, stating  Claimant's name. Policy No. Nature of illness / injury. Name of the attending  medical Practitioner / Hospital / Nursing Home. 

Final Claim

To be made within 30 days along with cash-memos / bills etc.

Cumulative Bonus

The sum insured will be progressively increased  by 5 % each year with respect to "No Claim Bonus". In addition a  medical-check will be offered free, at the end of  four consecutive "No-Claim" block or period.

An  individual  maybe insured for a sum of Rs.15,000/-  to Rs. 300,000/- or more. The premium is valid for the insured period of one year only. This may vary as per the age factor; for example, the premium for an insured amount of Rs. 15,000/-  may vary from Rs.175/- to Rs. 330/- depending on the age group i.e 45 years to 75 years. The other factor that  is also variable is the limit for domiciliary hospitalization. i.e Rs. 3000/- to Rs. 45,000/- depending on  the amount of the sum insured.
