Should antiseptics such as alcohol and iodine be poured
over abrasions, contusions, or lacerations?
No. It has been found that these substances do more
harm than good. The best insurance against infection is a thorough cleansing
or a period of five to ten minutes with ordinary soap and tap water.
Will the application of ice to a bruise or contusion
tend to lessen the amount of hemorrhage into the tissues?
Yes, but it should be remembered that damage can result
if the ice is applied for too long a period of time. Ice should be applied
for no longer than twenty minutes at one time and then discontinued for
a similar period.
