Mind Altering Drugs

Developing a healthy approach to life

Avoiding psychotic drug abuse is a negative approach which may never enter into one's consideration, if one has a positive attitude of life. Youth is the period when one has to develop proper values of right and wrong and recognize them in one's environment. Elders who are materialistic, even one's parents, can easily give a bad example, but there are enough good people in this world whose conduct provide examples to mulate.

Going on the wrong track may seem attractive, but the gains are short term ones. There is no short cut to the process of character building. It is achieved through overcoming hardships and difficulties which progressively make a person stronger, more self-reliant and poised. And the inner joy which this gives is far more exhilarating than what any stimulant drug can provide.

Determining one's conduct by the desire for the approval of others in doing what they want but what is harmful to oneself, is the worst possible character failing. Pause for a moment and analyze the real condition of those whose approbation you seek when you take drugs. They are wasters, drifters who are utterly bored and who have only one topic of conversation -- how to get 'high' on drugs, and who end up in a life of degradation. Do not debase your values by seeking the approbation of these kind of people.

Develop interests and hobbies. Life is glorious and interesting, especially in your youth. Nature provides unlimited scope for making life interesting.

In life one has always to take risks; but these may be reasonable or unreasonable. A reasonable risk is putting yourself in a situation where you stand to gain something positive if you take a chance and succeed. An unreasonable risk is putting yourself in a situation where, firstly, you stand to gain nothing positive' secondly, you lose something of value which cannot be replaced; and thirdly, you cause serious physical or mental harm to yourself or to another person.

People who are afraid to take reasonable risks, are rejecting success. People who are always taking unreasonable risks are rejecting themselves. TAKING PSYCHOTIC DRUGS IS AN UNREASONABLE RISK.
