Good oral health and hygiene is a prerequisite for overall well-being. Having good oral and dental health enables one to look and feel good, eat and speak properly,
while also keeping many diseases at bay. In addition, researches have demonstrated that health of one’s mouth is the mirror of overall general health. What does oral hygiene mean?- Absence of bad breath
- Clean teeth free of debris
- Healthy and pink gums, which do not bleed during brushing or during any other normal activity
- Dental decay and cavities
- Plaque and tartar
- Gum and periodontal diseases
By practising good oral hygiene:
- Thorough brushing twice a day, in correct manner
- Flossing daily
- Cleaning the tongue thoroughly
- Using fluoridated dental products (e.g. toothpastes that contain fluoride)
- Avoiding cigarettes and any other form of tobacco
- Avoiding high consumption of beverages containing acids/ very hot beverages
- Having a balanced diet (rich in vitamins like A and C) and avoiding snacking
- Seeing a dentist regularly (twice a year even in absence of any other dental problem)
