- Give your child the freedom to ask questions and allow him to disagree with you sometimes.
- Praising, if done rightly glorifies your child’s good behavior (It will not spoil your child. Praise the act, not the child.)
- The discipline must fit the deed, not exceed it.
- Children don’t learn from what you say, but they learn more from what you do.
- Demonstrate love and affection whenever necessary. Don’t use love as a payment for good conduct.
- Don’t be over protective towards your child, we all learn by making mistakes.
- Children do not upset you, rather it is your attitudes which upset you.
Check whether the following symptoms are present in someone you know
- Sleep disturbance.
- Poor appetite/irregular food intake. Not doing any work.
- Not attending/maintaining personal hygiene.
- Disturbed relationship with family members and others.
- Exhibiting behavior which is harmful or troublesome to others like being abusive, aggressive, suicidal or homicidal.
- Any bizarre or socially unacceptable behavior like undressing in public, collecting rubbish or wandering away from home.
- The person keeps getting fits repeatedly (more than 3 times a day or continuously).
- Disturbed behavior has occurred following child–birth.
- Persons who show abnormal behavior after taking alcohol.
