Shower Power
The right shampoo and conditioner can really help boost shine. Day to day, rely on moisturizing shampoos and conditioners that will help seal the cuticle and smooth the hair shaft. Once a week, lather up with a detoxifying shampoo to remove dulling product build up. In the shower, use a wide–tooth comb to distribute the conditioner evenly from roots to ends. Before you get out of the shower, rinse your hair with cold water. A cool rinse closes the hair's cuticle so it reflects light better.

Avoid these
If you want your hair to gleam, keep it healthy by using heated styling tools less frequently. If you have to use electric appliances on your hair, use a dryer with a nozzle attachment to create smooth sections and blow–dry your hair right side up (if you bend over you can create frizz). For extra–shiny strands, avoid brushes with plastic bristles, treat your hair to a boar bristle brush instead.

Salon Polish
If you want to chemically boost your hair’s brilliance, ask your stylist about a gloss treatment. A sheer wash of color is brushed over strands to close the hair’s cuticle and create a smooth surface. The formula washes out in 4 to 6 weeks and can boost your hair’s color without changing it.

Natural Wonders
You can also increase your hair’s brilliance with a quick trip to the kitchen. Try one of these recipes for good hair:
  • Rinse wet hair with one cup of cider vinegar before you get out of the shower for incredible shine.
  • Rub sweet almond oil into your scalp and hair. Leave on for two hours, then massage plain yogurt into your hair. Wait an extra 30 minutes, then remove with a mild shampoo.
  • Wet hair. Pat with a towel to remove excess water, and then apply 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise. Wrap hair in a towel for 30 minutes and rinse.
