The Rugna Hakk Samiti was recently formed at the Rugna Hakk Parishad organised on 19th July 2009 with several citizens, doctors and hospitals pledging support to the cause of protecting the rights of patients. The next such Parishad is being organized on 27th September 2009 at Andhashala, Ramtekdi, Hadapsar.The Parishad will be jointly hosted by MASUM, Kagad Kach Patra Kashtakari Panchayat, and Sathi CEHAT, Pune between 3.00 pm and 5.00 pm
Kagad Kach Patra Kashtakari Panchayat (KKPKP) is an organization of waste pickers working to improve their working conditions and has a membership of over 6000 waste pickers.
MASUM and SATHI, Pune are organizations working on Women’s Health issues and Health Rights. The Parishad will provide a space for dialogue between doctors and patients. It will allow for doctors/hospitals to share with citizens what practical difficulties they might face while observing patients rights. It will provide a space to discuss patients rights violations, which nowadays are so rampant. It is also onse step towards organizing public demand for making mandatory the observance of Patients’ Rights in both private and public hospitals.
The parishad will also provide an opportunity for preliminary deliberations on the draft Standard Charter of Patients’ Rights as part of the draft rules of the Bombay Nursing Home Registration Act, which have been posted on the official web site – (http://www.maha-arogya.gov.in) since June’ 2006. This Charter is attached herewith.
We would also like to felicitate the teams at Naidu hospital and Sassoon General Hospital who have been working so hard to reach out to patients during the swine flu epidemic.
