Pimpri–Chinchwad Municipal Corp.Speaking to TOI on Wednesday, Sharma said, “For every small and major ailment, people go to the YCMH. This increases the burden on the hospital staff and infrastructure. As a result, we are planning to decentralise the medicalcare facilities within the municipal limits from the YCMH to other PCMC run hospitals.”
The YCMH is the largest civic-run hospital in the Pimpri–Chinchwad township. With 650-beds and affordable treatment, it attracts people not only from the twin township, but also from nearby areas like Dehu and Chakan.
Anand Jagdale, medical superintendent, YCMH, said around 1,200 patients daily visit the out–patient department. The bed occupancy of the hospital is between 90 to 100 per cent.
Sharma said, “The civic body runs a number of smaller hospitals within the municipal limits. These hospitals need to be developed as Specialty centres for treating ailments and the existing infrastructure there needs to be upgraded in phases. This will help reduce the load on YCMH. We want to develop Jijamata hospital in Pimpri and Talera hospital in Chinchwad for maternity care.”
He added that the corporation would soon prepare plans for revamping services at other hospitals. “Most likely, we will first upgrade the maternity care (mother and child care) facility at Talera.”
The smaller municipal–run hospitals are at Akurdi and Bhosari apart from the Jijamata hospital in Pimpri and Talera hospital in Chinchwad.
