Volunteers of the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) medical and health department will conduct houseto–house visits for three days beginning Monday to give polio doses to children who have been left out of the pulse polio drive undertaken on Sunday.
A total of 2,94,476 children up to the age of five years were administered polio doses on Sunday as against a target of 3.27 lakh. While ninety per cent of the target was achieved, health department officials said that door–to–door visits will be carried out in the next three days to ensure that no child misses out on the pulse polio dose.
The PMC had set up 1,200 booths in the city and the 23 fringe villages to administer the polio dose on Sunday. Booths were set up at railway stations, bus stands, the Yerwada jail, all major gardens, 113 construction sites, brick kilns, and along highways.
A total of 3,550 volunteers, 240 supervisors, 110 medical officers, 15 ward officers and five divisional officers participated in the effort. Rotary Club members, nursing students, ‘Anganwadi’ workers and private medical practitioners volunteered in the campaign. The drive was also conducted in Pimpri–Chinchwad and the Khadki, Dehu Road and Pune cantonment areas.
