Manoj Kothari, an auto rickshaw driver from Aurangabad, who used to weigh 270 kgs was finding it difficult to move, climb stairs and often complained of being breathless. However, Manoj, who recently underwent a bariatric surgery, has now lost 70 kgs in two months.
It was a preoperative preparation done under supervision of Dr. Shashank Shah Director of Laparoscopic and obesity surgery and his team at Ruby Hall Clinic that helped Manoj lose weight.
Dr Shah says bariatric surgery is a procedure designed to induce weight loss. “It is a safe procedure, just like any other laparoscopic abdominal operation. Though the surgery can lead to nutrition deficiency that can supplemented,” Shah added.
In Manoj’s case, the surgery took an hour, wherein the curvature of the stomach was removed converting the stomach into a vertical tube, Shah said.
“Manoj was admitted at the hospital two months back. He was under extensive supervision and lost around 45 kgs. Two weeks back he was operated and lost another 25 kgs,” Shah added.
On Thursday, Manoj met Manish, who also underwent bariatric surgery three years back and has lost 150 kgs since. In his thirties, Manish, a resident of Bhopal, was a case of severe morbid obesity and weighed more than 260 kgs in June 2006.
