Suspended All India Institute of Medical Sciences surgeon AK Bisoi has been allowed to operate upon a kid by the Delhi High Court
The Delhi High Court came to the rescue of a month-old baby suffering from a heart ailment by allowing cardiothoracic surgeon AK Bisoi, who was suspended by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), to operate upon the child.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah passed the order after taking into cognisance the plea of the child‘s parents that patients were suffering after Bisoi‘s suspension, reports IANS.
The court, however, made it clear that its order will not in any way interfere with the Bisoi‘s suspension. It said he can approach the appropriate authority against the action taken by AIIMS.
The bench had earlier expressed concern over patients not being treated properly due to ego clashes among different groups of doctors in the premier institute.
However, AIIMS authorities in an affidavit submitted before the court said the child in question was not neglected after Bisoi‘s suspension and is in stable condition.
In an affidavit submitted to the court, AIIMS said the baby suffering from a heart ailment did not require surgery for the next three months.
However, it expressed its inability to call back the suspended cardiothoracic surgeon, saying it would amount to revoking the suspension order, which in turn would invite administrative complications.
The hospital also submitted the names of two other surgeons who could perform the child‘s operation.
In her petition, the child‘s mother Rekha said her baby was suffering from a heart ailment and was admitted to AIIMS under the supervision of Bisoi.
She alleged that the baby was neglected after Bisoi was suspended by the Health Minister on March 9.
