The self-proclaimed Ayurveda doctor Munir Khan who claims to have a cure for all diseases, including cancer, is on the run after several patients complained to the police.
There was high drama at Yari Road when the Versova police on Tuesday went to arrest Munir Khan at his clinic. Fourteen staff members and his son Munish Khan (25), also a small–time actor, have been held. Khan, however, managed to flee.
Khan is the same ‘doctor’ who issued a cheque of Rs 22 crore when income–tax officials raided his clinic and his Versova home last year.
According to a source, the police had a tough time as the accused did not allow them to enter the premises. Assistant commissioner of police Dilip Suryavanshi said, “We have been looking for Khan as he was wanted in a few cases and the court had rejected his anticipatory bail in September.” Munir was wanted by the Versova police in three cases–two of cheating and another that violated the Drugs and Magical Remedies Act 1954. The police also searched his clinic at Empress Court at Yari Road, Andheri. An ex–member of Central Board of Direct Taxes was his patient.
“Around 11.45 am, a team with five policemen went to Munir’s clinic, but his staff blocked their way. In the commotion, Munir fled in a car,” said Suryavanshi.
Earlier, the FDA allegedly wrote to the licensing authority–Department of Ayurveda, Ajmer, Rajasthan–urging them to cancel the permission for the product, Body Revive, sold by Khan.
