With swine flu cases on the rise, the Andhra Pradesh government has set up a swine flu control and coordination centre at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to screen passengers arriving in the country. Setting up of the centre, manned by doctors and paramedics from the Government General and Chest Hospital, is one of the many steps the government is taking to prevent the spread of the flu.
“Arriving passengers would be screened at the airport and anyone with symptoms would immediately be quarantined and taken to the hospital for treatment. It is important that we contain the infection from spreading,” Swine Flu Nodal Centre’s Coordinator Dr K Subhakar said.
He said the passengers who arrived in the country recently have been requested to get themselves tested and take anti-viral medicines. On Monday, health teams traced 90 passengers of the British Airways flight that landed on May 31 and gave them anti-viral medicine. A techie and two women who arrived on this flight had tested positive for the flu, sparking fears that other passengers who were on the flight may also be affected.
