Pimpri–Chinchwad municipal commissioner Ashish Sharma has directed the civic health department to conduct a special fogging drive in Zone D to prevent the occurrence of dengue and malaria there. The two–day drive will begin on Thursday.
Speaking to TOI on Wednesday, Ashish Sharma said, “The health department has been directed to conduct house–to–house fogging in Sangvi in zone D.”
An official from the health department said 67 dengue cases and 111 malaria cases have been detected in the PCMC limits in the period between January and June 2009. Most cases were reported from zone D areas.
When the health department conducted a survey to identify mosquito breeding places within municipal limits, they were found at many construction sites.
The health department had sent 146 notices to builders/developers on whose sites mosquito breeding places had been found. The builders/developers have been directed to take remedial action and have been provided with a list of pest control agencies.
Speaking to TOI, Nagkumar Kunchagi, medical officer of health (MOH) said, “Some have conveyed to us that they are taking the preventive measures, while others have not informed us about the action they have taken. We will again send reminders to them.”
