In view of the increased number of dengue fever cases in the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation has launched a fumigation drive on Tuesday.
“Around 250 health workers have been deployed for tackling the cases related to dengue, said R.R. Pardeshi, deputy health of officer of PMC.”
Pardeshi said that the number of suspected dengue cases in the city has reached 134 this year. Out of these, 48 were positive and three people have lost their lives.
Giving details of the drive Pardeshi said that the civic wards have been divided in to five sections. These sections will be surveyed on a regular basis. Dengue–prone spots will be identified and fumigated.
The focus will be on areas like Bhavani Peth and Nana Peth, where dengue patients have been found. The fringe areas of the city have also witnessed large number of dengue cases. The squad will fumigate the houses of the patients.
“Larvae of aedes aegypti mosquito, vector for the dengue fever, grow in clean water, so people should avoid unnecessary storage of water,” Pardeshi said. Citizens should not keep stagnant water in and around their houses as it breeds the mosquito, he added.
