The Chatushrungi police on Wednesday arrested two doctors in connection with the incident in which a woman went into coma after a C–section, allegedly because of an overdose of anaesthesia at a hospital on Sus road.
Judicial magistrate first class G G Itkalkar released doctors Deepa Laxmi Ragade and Ratanlal Daga on bail on personal bonds of Rs 15,000 each.
Sub–inspector Udaysinh Patil told TOI: “Another doctor and two nurses, allegedly involved in the case, were not arrested as they had gone out of Pune.”
Advocate Prashant Patil, who is representing the suspects, said that, when contacted, the police informed him that there was no allegation of giving an overdose of anaesthesia to the patient in the medical committee report.
Patil added that he would make a detailed statement after obtaining a certified copy of the report.
Quoting the medical committee report of the Sassoon general hospital, Patil said: “The whole team of doctors should have been more vigilant during the post–operative period”.
“The case was registered as the suspects did not take proper precautions while performing the caesarean operation,” Patil added.
According to complainant Prashant Kukade of Yash residency on Sus road, the doctors had performed a caesarean operation on his wife Rupali on August 8, 2008. However, after delivering a baby boy, she went into a coma till date.
Kukade had initially filed a complaint application against the suspects holding them responsible for the incident. According to the complaint, the anaesthetist had administered an overdose of anaesthesia on Rupali.
Patil told TOI earlier that “As it was a medico–legal case, we had forwarded the application to the medical committee of the Sassoon general hospital.”
