Doctors’ Team Operated For Hour–And–Half
The patient, a 45–year–old homemaker, approached the hospital with complaints of weakness, anaemia, breathlessness and heavy bleeding during periods. Physical examination, MRI and ultrasound scan revealed fibroid in the uterus.
A team of five doctors – Narayanaswamy, Padma, Deepti and anaesthetists Ramesh and Harish – performed the surgery for over one–and–a–half hours to remove the fibroid from the uterus. The patient is now recovering.
Fibroids are benign tumours usually seen in the reproductive age group. It can occur rarely in infants and children. Doctors said the tumour of this size is rare and can affect one in a lakh.
