Chief minister K Rosaiah directed officials here on Thursday to start more ‘memory clinics’ in hospitals to help the increasing number of people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Promising financial aid from the government for expanding the activities of the memory clinics, Rosaiah directed top health officials to chalk out a plan of action to not only help those suffering from the illness but even the caregivers.
He also asked health officials to convene a meeting of neurologists in the city to increase awareness about the disease and enable its early detection.
The chief minister further offered his support to the Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI), whose president Dr Alladi Suvarna, neurologist with Nims, met him on Thursday and briefed him on the challenges being faced by the society in creating awareness and reaching out to more people to help them manage the illness better. Dr Suvarna said that ARDSI would work in coordination with the health department to combat the illness.
