Manali’s road to success was not an easy one. While perception and concentration are her key problem areas, she said she did not face any difficulty memorising concepts. The only concession she availed of from the state was to study Class VII Arithmetic Mathematics and Information Technology instead of Algebra and Geometry.
The 15–year–old’s parents are proud of their daughter but insist that it was her teachers at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel School (in Dahisar) who guided Manali. “The school staff gets credit for my daughter’s success,” said Manali’s mum, Archana Bagaria.
Pranjali followed a strict schedule. After returning from school, she would undergo two hours of physiotherapy every afternoon and then study with her home tutor. As her shoulder is slightly rigid, she struggles to draw geometrical and science diagrams in her exams. But the Dahisar girl insisted on answering all the papers herself, without the help of a writer.
“I got the marks I expected, so I am satisfied with my performance. I scored 10% more in the SSC exam, than my preliminary tests,” said Prachi.
Her mother added: “Her hard work has certainly paid off and I am really happy for her. Everyone has the potential to succeed and I believe all parents should encourage their children to take that important step in the right direction.”
