Doctors Remove 15kg Ovarian Tumour in Assam

In a rare case a 15kg ovarian tumour was removed today from a 43-year-old woman in Assam’s Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) where she was admitted on suspicion of being pregnant.
Biju Baharali of Ratanpur in Majuli Island, who claimed she was eight months pregnant was admitted to JMCH on February 19 with severe abdominal pain, hospital authorities said.
A complicated operation lasting for about three hours was performed and the tunour removed by assistant professor Farzana Zahir, the authorities said adding the woman was stated to be out of danger and recovering steadily.
The authorities said the operation was conducted successfully despite limited instruments available as the newly set up JMCH was still in the process of procurring medical equipment.
