Ahealth campaign has been launched to promote awareness among the public, patients and their families about heart diseases. The campaign, named Dil Se, will cover the city and adjoining urban, semi urban and rural areas.
The year–long campaign, organised by Ruby Hall Clinic, has two objectives. While attempting to sensitise the public about the issues and importance of prevention, early diagnosis and timely medical advice on heart diseases, the drive tries to address the issue of inadequate healthcare delivery services, including improper diagnostics.
Dr Purvez Grant, Chief Cardiologist, Ruby Hall Clinic said, "While India is a country with growing incidence and prevalence of heart diseases, we still grapple with issues like limited awareness and inadequate reach of appropriate treatment options. Dil Se is an initiative on our part to address these issues, in Maharashtra. We hope that people will come forward and make the most of this initiative."
Recent studies indicate that in the past five decades, rates of coronary disease among urban populations have risen from 4% to 11% in India. The World Health Organisation estimates that by 2020 close to 60 percent of cardiac patients worldwide will be Indian.
