Here is some good news for patients who had been hoping for surgery that is less painful, ensures faster recovery, requires shorter hospitalization and minimizes scars. A minimal access surgery centre was inaugurated at the Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals (AGH), Kolkata, on Friday.
"In case of some subspecialties, the cost of minimal access surgery may be about 10 to 15% higher than the traditional surgery. But then, this surgery is much safer and allows a patient to get back to work within a short time," said AGH Kolkata CEO, Dr Rupali Basu.
Whether a patient goes for the traditional surgery or the minimal invasive one will depend on the doctor’s decision and the patient’s consent.
"Apollo group of hospitals has been the pioneer in introducing the latest technologies in the country that help patients recover fast and safely with fewer long–term consequences of the surgery. Our surgeons have been trained thoroughly for this," said Dr Preetha Reddy, managing director, Apollo Hospitals Group.
