Hospitals and medical institutions not having adequate arrangements to dispose their biomedical waste would be prosecuted. Environment minister Nakul Dubey gave directions to this effect while presiding over a meeting at UP Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) on Thursday. Likewise, he also ordered assessment of industries established by the UP State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC) for proper drainage system. Dubey said that in case of any lapse on account of lack of drainage system, the UPSIDC be sent a notice, the minister said.
Dubey said that the sewage treatment plants in the state be monitored on a regular basis. This, he said, could be done jointly with the help of UP Jal Nigam.
Meanwhile, Dubey, who also happens to be the minister of urban development, directed all the municipal commissioners to review the state of civic amenities in their respective municipal limits. The direction came within a fortnight after chief minister Mayawati expressed her displeasure over the state of cleanliness in the 12 municipal corporations. It were the CM’s reservations which then led the officials of the urban development department in a tizzy with officials of the rank of principal secretary stepping out to inspect various localities in case of the state capital.
