The SC on Tuesday virtually closed the door on traditional medicine practitioners who had acquired degrees like Vaidya Visharads and Ayurved Ratnas from the popular Hindi Sahitya Sammelan (HSS) , Allahabad, after 1967.
A Bench comprising Justices B S Chauhan and Swatanter Kumar said Hindi Sahitya Sammelan was neither a university, deemed university nor an educational board to continue granting degrees after 1967, till which time it was given permission under law to do so. "HSS has not got recognition from the statutory authority after 1967. No attempt was ever made by HSS to get recognition as required under Sec 4 of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1970," Justice Chauhan said.
