All orders to be stored, tested in laboratories in Pune, Jalna and Nagpur
The Maharashtra government will soon come out with a new ‘procurement policy’ in an effort to curb corruption in purchase of medicine, drugs and equipments.
Replying to the budgetary demands of the Public Health department in the Legislative Assembly, health minister Suresh Shetty said purchases will not be done through the specified rate contract but by floating tenders.
A procurement committee headed by an Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) will be set up to look into the purchases. Two officials of the State Medical council, one vigilance officer drawn from the police force, two renowned doctors will be part of the committee, the minister said.
“After the orders are received, they will be stored in warehouses which will come up in Pune, Jalna and Nagpur. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials will test the medicine in the warehouse laboratory and the stock will be sent directly to primary healthcare centres and sub centres,” he said.
The minister also announced that a high powered panel would be set up to look into allegations of corruption in the previous procurement deals in the state. Shettyal so announced that e-governance would be used for data collection.
