India has issued more than one crore smart cards under the health insurance scheme for the poor since the scheme started April 2008.
“This is perhaps the largest effort ever to use Information Technology tools in rural areas,” Minister for Labour and Employment Mallikarjun Kharge said.
Under the scheme, the card is given to a family of five persons providing cover for hospitalisation up to Rs 30,000, reports IANS.
