Protests, demonstrations marked the Doctor’s Day across the state on Thursday.
Medical teachers at all the six government medical colleges expressed their grievances against the government by staging demonstration at the main gate of the associated hospitals, They wore black armbands at work as a mark of protest.
In Jaipur, the demonstration was held at the SMS Hospital. "The medical teachers pay scale is even lower than the lecturer in other colleges. The state government has yet not implemented the assured career progression scheme, and many are yet to get promotions," said Dr R C Yadav secretary, Rajasthan Medical College Teachers’ Association.
If the grievances are not met, the teachers have decided to stage a demonstration on July 15. At the Bikaner Medical College, the resident doctors went on a mass leave over a patient-doctor dispute. Following the incident on Tuesday night, the doctors had been demanding for an FIR to be lodged against the culprits. Later during the day, a case was registered.
Amid angry protests, the day however, started early with a marathon to generate awareness on ‘healthy heart’. Around 250 doctors in the city participated in the event organised by Jaipur Medical Association (JMA). "The aim was to spread awareness on heart care. If people can walk and run on a regular basis, it would prevent many heart ailments," said said Dr Shivraj Singh, secretary JMA. Later in the evening, 14 doctors were felicitated by the JMA.
