Support Group for Leoukoderma Patients

The city might soon have a support group for leukoderma patients. It has been decided that parents of children suffering from the benign skin disease will be roped in to form the group and help spread awareness on leukoderma, one of the most widely misconstrued ailments. Members of the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Veneriologists and Leprologists (IADVL) observed Vitiligo Awareness Day at medical colleges across the city on Wednesday.
Events were held at the Calcutta Medical College, NRS Medical College, RG Kar Medical College, National Medical College, IPGMER, School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, KPC Medical College and Vidyasagar Hospital. Leaflets on the disease were distributed, display boards, posters and banners containing facts related to vitiligo were put up dispelling myths at the outpatient departments.
“A short documentary film in Bengali as prepared by the members of IADVL,WB was shown at various institutions,” said Koushik Lahiri, former national general secretary of IADVL.
The main programme was held at Medical College and was conducted by the president of the IADVL state branch P K Dutta and state secretary Dinesh Hawelia.
