Expert cardiologist from Pitie Salpetriere Hospital, Paris, Dr Gilles Montalescot spoke on new developments in anti–platelet medication at a programme organised by Sahara Hospital on Wednesday.
Later briefing reporters, city–based cardiologist Dr Nakul Sinha said the limitations of present generation of anti–platelet medication may be divided into three segments. First, some people are genetically resistant to these medicines so they are not of help. Second, their efficacy reduces when taken with other medicines.Finally, intake of these medicines may lead to thinning of blood which may cause bleeding.
He added that anti–platelet medication could be a necessary evil. But it is surely better to escape the disease. "So, act now," he said.
