It will boost voluntary blood donation and also reduce the expenses on the maintenance of blood in blood banks across the state
Bihar will soon have a data base of state level blood donors. This will boost voluntary blood donation and also reduce the expenses on the maintenance of blood in blood banks across the state.
Bihar State AIDS Control Society (BSACS) Project Director Sanjeev Kumar Sinha said the process of compiling data base of blood donors in the state would begin shortly. He said the number of blood donors in the state has increased in the recent years.
He said the BSACS would soon start registering the names of persons willing to donate blood. Later a club comprising the voluntary blood donors would be set up. Sinha said that the new system would reduce the cost of storage of the blood.
"The data base will reduce the chances of wastage of surplus blood. There have been instances when blood go waste due to low demand at blood collection events," he added.
Bihar records an average 38 per cent voluntary blood donation against the national average of 62 per cent. During 2006-07 altogether 53,592 units of blood were collected in the state. However, it went up to 1.16 lakh units during 2010-11.
