For The Poor
The high court on Tuesday directed private hospitals to submit their decision in four weeks on the alternative medical care programme for poor patients.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar indicated that those who were agreeable to this proposition were entitled for return of their machinery (confiscated) or refund of the duty which was already paid (as bank guarantee) as the case may be.
The cases of those hospitals who don’t file any response will be dealt in terms of the apex court’s directive which had asked the DGHS to investigate the issue. The alternative scheme mooted by the court envisages treating 20 % of poor patients (out of the total in a year) free of cost for a period of 20 years. All BPL card holders are eligible.
