Recognizing diabetes is the first step to battle it. The second edition of Beat Diabetes, an initiative to increase awareness and help people lead healthy lives, was launched on Wednesday.
The initiative, launched by Lifestyle in association with The Times of India, urges people to take free blood glucose screening tests in Landmark Group associated stores and also join the Beat Diabetes Walk on November 20 (Sunday) at Kanteerava Stadium. Sandalwood came out in full support to make the campaign a success. Director Yograj Bhat said: “Diabetes is a friendly disease and one needs to be friendly with it. Eat well, walk well and sleep well is the mantra.”
Actor Tara felt, “Diabetes is not a disease, it is an awakening call to make the right lifestyle changes”. Taking her glucose screening tests, actor Aindrita Ray said: “Both my parents have diabetes from a young age. That is why I am here to support the cause.”
Kabir Lumba, managing director, Lifestyle International Pvt Ltd, said: “Beat Diabetes is an initiative aimed at raising awareness about preventing, managing and treating diabetes. Today, India has a very high population of diabetics -- half of the people with diabetes are not even aware that they have it. Although there is no permanent cure, early detection and proper management can make a life-saving difference.”
