Parliamentary Consultative Group on Health Said That This Mandatory village Posting Was a Must to Battle Lack of Physicians in Rural Regions
A parliamentary panel has recommended having obligatory village posting for fresh medical graduates to help offer better health care in rural regions of the country.
Members of the Parliamentary Consultative group on Health in its report said that this mandatory village posting was a must to battle lack of physicians in rural regions.
They also demanded early beginning of Bachelor in Rural Health Care course to fight the crisis of doctors.
A few associates, however, indicated that those doing this course should not be offered permission to practice medicine, saying it would be better to call them "paramedicals".
The Medical Council of India (MCI) had previously recommended the course that was sanctioned by the Health Ministry.
But, the offer got stuck with the previous MCI board under the chairmanship of Dr S K Sarin refusing to notify the course.
The panel also sought more funds from the department to back up and propagate plans to reach out to the grassroots.
