Ruby Hall Doctors Conduct Open Heart Surgeries in Nigeria

An open heart surgery was performed in Nigeria by the cardiac surgical team of Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune, India. The hospital sent its cardiac surgery team to Lagos, Nigeria to perform a complex open heart surgery at a government hospital. These surgeries were conducted free of cost as part of the international humanitarian initiative of Ruby Hall Clinic.
The team was led by senior consultant cardiac surgeon Dr Manoj Durairaj. The other members of the group comprised cardiac anesthetist Dr Sameer Ghotavadekar, perfusionist Rajendra Khude, nurse Manisha Rakshe, nurse Priya, marketing manager Sanjay Lawand and administrative officer Hrishikesh Khandve.
The team spent a week in Lagos State University Teaching Hospital training local surgeons there. Complex pediatric heart surgeries were performed on three persons, including a two-year-old boy. Hospital sources said this boy was the youngest patient in Nigeria who has undergone a complex heart surgery successfully.
Efforts of the Indian doctors were lauded by the local government. Governor of Lagos State Fashola Babatunde invited the team members to the Governor House and felicitated them.
Dr Durairaj said operating on foreign soil was a challenging experience. He said though the conditions were difficult, the team could face all the challenges and conducted the life-saving procedures successfully.
