Two National Health Projects for Nuapada

The Orissa government will be starting two pilot health projects, one under National Programme for Health Care of Elderly (NPHCE) and the other National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular diseases and Stroke (NPCDS) in Nuapada district.
Under the NPCDS, persons above 30 years of age will undergo free health check–up at the primary–level by specially trained doctors and paramedical staff for these diseases.
A clinic for non–communicable diseases will be set up at community health centres and district headquarters hospital. Besides treatment, the clinics will work to create modify the lifestyle of the people, a government release said. The Nuapada district hospital will also have a cardiac care unit and a cancer care unit as part of the pilot project.
Veer Surendra Sai Medical College and Hospital in Burla will have a territorial cancer care centre and a 30–bed geriatric care ward. An estimated Rs 15.20 crore will be spent on the two pilot projects, of which the Centre and the state will bear cost on a 80:20 ratio.
