Chandigarh: In a bid to strengthen its public health system, Haryana government has decided to establish Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) resource centres at state, district, block and village level for mentoring and monitoring the functioning of Health Department.

Currently there are 14,000 active ASHAs in the state who work as an interface between the community and the public health division.

ASHA resource center would be the nodal agency to organise meetings and do follow ups with the support of State Programme Management Unit (SPMU) under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) programmes.

"State level call centre or helpline would also be put in place for verification of records pertaining to pregnant women and newborns. This call centre would identify the gaps in service delivery at district and block levels and subsequently give feedback to concerned authority," the official stated.

Support mechanism would be developed by ASHAs and auxiliary nurse midwives at State headquarter for beneficiaries.

Besides, Haryana government has decided to initiate a SMS based work-plan for verification and validating records of health providers and beneficiaries captured in Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) server across the state.

This facility would be provided to all ANMs, Lady Home Visitors (LHVs,) Public Health Nurses (PHNs), ASHAs and information assistants.
