Any person visiting an ayurvedic physician for consultation is eager to know about his/her ‘Prakriti.’
Prakriti is a set of some physical mental sensory, motor and spiritual character of an individual. These are decided at the time of conception of that individual. Therefore, constitution or prakriti is a highly individual thing, since it is decided at the time of conception as the individual develops in the womb. Accordingly, the individual exhibits certain instincts, certain emotional and response patterns depending upon the combination and predominance of tridosha’s.
- Since there are three dosha’s, we have seven broad categories of physical constitution.
- Predominance of single dosh three in number or singular vata or singular pitta or singular kapha.
- Three combinations with simultaneous predominance of two dosha’s namely. Vata pitta, vata kapha, pitta kapha, predominant.
- A highly desirable but equally rare constitution called samdhatu prakriti.
- Similar the mental constitution can be classified into broad 16 categories seven due to predominance of Satve, six due to predominance of Rajas and remaining three of Tamas.
- Therefore any and every individual will belong to one of the physical or 16 mental constitution but this mixture will be highly specific.
